PenMount Convenience Promotes Success in the Field

Among projected capacitive (PCAP) touch controller manufacturers, PenMount is unique for providing the easiest and most extensive fine-tuning capabilities to our customers.  The PenMount team works with customers every day to solve issues particular to each individual project and those projects can be refined onsite with convenient PenMount utilities without the need for factory re-adjustment.

PenMount PCAP touch controllers and utilities bring successful projects to market and troubleshoot existing products in the field.  While visiting European customers in March of this year, a world-renowned client abruptly approached us with a technical issue.  Touch operation when using their proprietary application was behaving erratically but returning to normal when operating standard Windows applications. We fixed this problem quickly and efficiently onsite by using PenMount PCIUtility to adjust “sample rate limit” and “down debouncing time” to reduce signal load on customer application. The issue was, the PenMount PCAP controller was reporting touch signal information faster than the customer application was programmed to handle.    After returning to Taiwan, we received a thank-you and high praise via email from the customer.  PenMount PCIUtility is so easy to use that system integration companies can solve some problems on their own and make touch operations smooth and normal.

Another customer requested a life support machine be able to maintaining a button press for 1 minute or more for continuous actions.  Hospital wards and operating rooms are full of devices emitting high and low frequency interference and PenMount touch products must provide stable touch signals while being affected by environmental noise.  The customer was instructed to activate both “Enhanced Driving” and “Enhanced Frequency Hopping” in PenMount PCIUtility to reduce noise interference and ensure smooth operation.  PenMount’s “Enhanced Driving” mechanic is used to filter noise interference of greater than average power by boosting driving to increase signal to noise ratio while “Enhanced Frequency Hopping” filters noise interference of greater than average complexity through a proprietary algorithm.  A highly stable touch signal ensures medical personnel can correctly issue commands to the system and prevent touch signal loss and related difficulties.

The aforementioned parameters can all be adjusted in PenMount PCIUtility.  In addition, PenMount PCIUtility contains a host of useful parameters that can be adjusted to troubleshoot problems or refine touch operation.  These include: palm rejection, sensitivity, edge compensation, and more.  For more information regarding PenMount PCIUtility, please refer to PenMount PCIUtility User’s Guide on our website.
