PenMount PCI Passes Medical Safety Certification

04/16/2015

PenMount projected capacitive input (PCI) touch product specifications continue to improve. Our newly released control board hardware PM1310 and PM1710 and Flex PCB (COF) are paired with advanced frequency hopping firmware and they have already produced some success stories in different market applications. One primary function possessed by these controllers allows us to satisfy the EMC standard requirements of different industries. You may be curious to why PenMount PCI products continue to emphasize Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) specifications and its level classifications? How does this help customer products or applications?

Operation of PCI products requires the use of fingers which are conductors. Similarly, it is easy for electromagnetic noise from the environment to interfere with PCI controllers. If noise is erroneously deems as finger operation when detecting finger signals, we will conclude there is room for improvement in a product’s reliability. How is electromagnetic noise tolerance determined? We set our PCI touch solution specifications according to industrial grade EMC testing standard IEC 61000-4-x.

In the medical application field, equipment that emit high frequency and high energy signals are prevalent in the usage environment. Thus, the medical industry has, long ago, developed safety standards for instruments and equipment. The medical safety standard is EN 60601-1-2, 2014 which was revised to its 4th edition in 2014. PenMount has moved forward with certification of the PM1710 in compliance with this medical standard. We are very happy to inform you, the PenMount PM1710 PCI control board was certified medical safety standard: EN 60601-1-2 Edition 4.0 2014-02 test compliant at the beginning of this month and meets the following test item specifications:

  • EN 61000-4-3 (RS test, Passed 28V/m, criteria A) / EN 60601-1-2 Edition 4.0 2014-02
  • IEC 61000-4-3 (RS test, Passed 10V/m, criteria A)
  • IEC 61000-4-6 (CS test, Passed 10V, criteria A)
  • EN 61000-4-2 (ESD test, 8KV Contact Discharge; 15KV Air Discharge)

PenMount is very happy to announce our qualification on this medical safety standard test. We hope to continue meeting the required specifications of different industries through relentless technical advancement. Only by constantly upgrading product functionality can increasingly stringent safety standards be met and customers’ high product reliability requirements satisfied. PenMount will provide you with the best PCI solutions. If you have any special project requirements, you are welcome to contact us. We will provide you with a wonderful experience of collaboration.
