Remote firmware update is available for Windows and Linux operating systems. Taking Windows OS as an example, a MSI (Microsoft Windows installer) file package can be pushed to client side for automatic firmware update at the next boot up.  This MSI update package includes firmware update utility, software library, and the firmware file. Remote firmware update can be initiated from anywhere in the world.  This means engineers can update firmware, adjust parameters, and enable features from remote side with neither geographical nor time constraints.  No engineers are required onsite to physically interact with customer systems for after-sales service.

One real-world project involving gas pump touch screens illustrates the ease and flexibility of remote firmware update.  With thousands of individual pumps in the field spanning numerous countries, it was inevitable these systems would be placed in disparate environments.  After installation, parameters such as water handling and sensitivity were fine tuned remotely according to customer feedback by region.  This optimized operation for each discrete environment without the need for onsite support.
