PenMount’s New User-friendly Features

10/25/2018 | Bulletin No. : PMY18010

PenMount products are defined by their superior performance, persistent reliability, and elegant simplicity.  Our projected capacitive (PCAP or PCI) touch controllers deliver premium functionality for the most demanding projects yet are incredible easy to configure and use.  The PenMount team continuously refines our PCAP controller operation to ensure the most user-friendly features are available to our customers.

In order to promote safety and smooth operation, PenMount controllers offer advanced water handling and palm rejection.  If operational safety is a priority for your system, you can chose to have PenMount firmware automatically disable touch functionality when there is water on the touch panel surface to fully prevent any possibility of false touch signal generation.  Touch function will be automatically restarted after PenMount firmware detects no water on the touch panel surface.  In addition, PenMount palm rejection identifies when a palm rests on the touch panel surface and disregards this contact as a signal source for touch control.

As a way to further enhance the ease of customer system development, PenMount has recently introduced several new user-friendly features such as event notification which is invoked when touch signal reporting is disabled.  In terms of water handling, the PCAP touch controller will send a notification to the system when water is present on the touch panel surface.  The system can then display a message reminding the user to dry the touch panel and a message telling the user the touch panel is disabled.  Once the panel surface is dried, the controller will send a notification to the system, alerting the user normal touch operation has resumed.

As the number of customer applications grows, more and more specific statuses require the disabling of touch signal reporting.  These statuses include “palm on panel,” “noise interference,” and “cleaning screen.”  In all of these cases, the controller will provide an event notification to the system and indicate the reason touch signal reporting was disabled.

In addition, if customer application requires high ESD requirements, enhanced PenMount PCAP firmware can now pass IEC 61000-4-2 ESD 15kV (air discharge) class A standard.  With this option, customer applications such as mission critical systems can be further hardened against static discharge and maintain operational readiness in the harshest of environments.

The mission of the PenMount team is to provide the market with user-friendly products without compromising safety, reliability, and functionality.  For more information on how PenMount can work for you, please contact our sales representatives.
