What's the purpose of the LED on
PenMount control board for?
-
The LED lights on PenMount control board
is used to determine the working state
of the controller. Here are some
circumstances that user might find it
shining.
(1) If the controller and touch panel is
connected correctly, the LED will be
lighted when touching the panel, and
will fade on release.
(2) If the LED is always lighted even
when no one touch the panel, it may
suggest that :
A. Some objects
oppress the panel by mistake.
B. The pin
assignments between the touch panel and
controller is not correctly set.
C. The driver
hasn't been installed if using PenMount
6000 RS-232.
(3) If the LED is not lighted when
touching the panel, the possible causes
are :
A. There is no
power supply.
B. The PenMount
controller is not functioning.
C. The
connector is broken.
D. User has touched the wrong side
of the touch panel, or it's not working
properly.
-
What is the maximum working distance for
cable between the computer and the PenMount
control board ?
-
(1). For RS-232 cable, the maximum
distance is 12 M. You can extend the
distance by using a RS-232 serial
extender. If you need to setup the
extender for PenMount, here are some
information :
(A) . Protocol 19200 bauds, N81
(B) . control signals : RTS, RXD, TXD,
GND, DTR, DSR
Please note, however, when using RS-232
connections with long distance, the PNP
detection might not work properly. In
this case you might need to consider
using a extender that supports PNP
function, or using a non PNP driver for
your PenMount device. Please check out
the General Questions 5
for more information.
(2). For USB cables, the maximum
distance without a extender depends on
the controller and transfer speed of the
USB. PenMount 6000 USB controller
supports full speed mode, and the
maximum distance is 5M. PenMount 5000
USB controller supports low speed mode ,
and the distance is 3M. To extend the
distance, you can consider using a USB
hub or a extender.

How to wake up the Windows XP system by
touching the panel in suspend mode ?
-
The touch wakeup function only works
under several condition.
(1). When using the RS-232
interface, it only supports wake up from
S1 mode.
When using the USB interface, if the
BIOS supports “USB device wake up from
S3” and there is power supply for
PenMount during suspend, user can wake
up the system by the touching.
-
Why does the touch function fail when no
mouse is attached to the system under
Windows 2000 / XP ?
-
The problem can occur on PenMount 9000
controllers, which is caused by the
compatibility issues of BIOS and
Windows. User can change the switch
settings to non PNP mode, then install
the non PNP Windows driver. The non PNP
driver can be found in the [
Download ] page.
-
Why does the touch function failed when
changing port of the PenMount USB device ?
-
Why does the cursor position and movement
direction is still incorrect after
installing the driver ?
-
Calibration is needed if it's the first
time installing PenMount driver. The
calibration utility provides two modes :
standard calibration and advanced
calibration. The advanced calibration is
used to correct the non linearity ( up
to 4% ) of touch panels. If the cursor
still positions incorrectly after
calibration , we suggest that user
should replace the the touch panel,
since it has totally lost it's
linearity.
-
How to call the calibration utility
outside the PenMount Control Panel ?
-
User can call the calibration utility
when using newer PenMount drivers.
(1) Supported
driver version
(a) PenMount 9000 Driver V5.0 or after.
(b) PenMount 5000 Driver V4.1.0005 or
after.
(c) PenMount Universal Driver.
(2) Syntax
<Path To Install Dir>\DmcCtrl.exe
-calibration [ 0 | 4 | 9 | 16 | 25 ]
In this case , 0 is for standard
calibration , and 4, 9,16,25 is for
advanced calibration.

How to install another PenMount device if
the PenMount driver has already been
installed in the system ?
-
There are two ways for new device
installation, depending on the driver
version user is using.
(1). If the driver installed is not
PenMount Windows Universal Driver, or
the universal driver version is earlier
than 2.0.0.113, user must first move the
existing PenMount driver then reinstall
it for new device installation. Please
refer to the Windows
Question 10 for updating the driver.
(2). Since PenMount Windows Universal
Driver version 2.0.0.187, a device
refreshing function is added to the
PenMount Control Panel. Please make sure
that all PenMount devices are connected
to the system correctly before running
the refresh function. Please visit the [
Download ] page for the latest
PenMount Windows Universal Driver.
-
Why does the touch function fail when
changing to a different model of PenMount
control board even after installing the
PenMount Windows Universal Driver ? Doesn't
it support all PenMount controller model ?
-
Yes! PenMount Windows Universal Driver
does support all the PenMount controller
model. However, for older version of
PenMount Windows Universal Driver, user
should uninstall the driver and restart
Windows first, then install the driver
again, since it only installs driver for
new devices at the installation process.
For PenMount Windows Universal Driver
V2.1 and later, a device refreshing
function is added to the PenMount
Control Panel, so it can detect
and install the device driver directly
without reinstalling.
-

to Windows Question 22
for multi-monitor setup instructions
first. Please press “s” to skip the
mapping when PenMount Control Panel
prompts to map the monitors without
touch panel.
(B). On Windows 7, If the touch screen
is mapped to monitors other than the
primary display, please follow the
descriptions in Windows
Question 22 to set up the correct
mapping.

What is the difference between the
Windows CE driver that marked “stylus” and
the standard driver ?
-
Can it support two PenMount devices under
WinCE ?
-
After using PenMount WinCE stylus driver,
I can’t see the Microsoft’s calibration on
the control panel. What should I do ?
-
Please add the "BSP_NOTOUCH = 0” into
the Environment of the Platform Builder,
when you finish setting up the WinCE
system, there will be the inner
established calibration of the Microsoft
on the control panel.
-
Why is the cursor position becomes
incorrect after restarting Windows CE system
?
-
Why does the PenMount USB Windows CE
Driver fail to work ?
-
1. In WinCE 4.0/ 4.1/ 4.2, this can be
caused by the USB controller settings.
USB 1.1 has two kinds of interfaces :
OHCI and UHCI, please make sure which
kind of interface that system is using.
If a USB mouse don't work on Windows CE
system, that means that there is
something wrong in the OHCI or UHCI
setting. In Windows CE 5.0 / 6.0 do not
have to set up the USB interface. If not
under normal operation, please double
check the USB connection !
2. Please notice that if you are using
PenMount 6000 USB with firmware
6000.6.0.0 or later, you will need to
use the PenMount 6000 USB Windows CE 4.2
V1.2 / 5.0 / 6.0 V3.0 driver or later to
work properly.
3. If you are using PenMount 6000
firmware 6000.6.0.0, but you have
already built the system image with
older PenMount USB device drivers,
including PenMount WinCE4.2 device
driver V1.1 or PenMount WinCE 5.0/6.0
device driver V3.0 or older, you can
still make the touch screen working by
following the steps below:
(1) Add new registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\LoadClients\5345_24576\Default\3\PenMount_USB_HID_Class_Driver]
(2) Copy all registry values under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\LoadClients\5345_24576\Default\3_1_2\PenMount_USB_HID_Class_Driver]
to (1)
without deleting the original registry
key.
(3) Save the registry
(4) Restart the system
4. When using PenMount device driver
V3.2 or older, the mouse cursor might
stick to the center of the screen when
using a brand new PenMount control board
or IC. This is due to no calibration
data stored in the PenMount control IC.
To solve this issue, please use other
input devices like mouse or keyboard to
launch the PenMount calibration program.
After finishing the calibration, the
touch screen will be back to normal.
This problem has been fixed in the
latest PenMount device driver for
Windows CE 5.0 / 6.0 V3.3. The cursor
will not be blocked in the center of the
screen any more.

When I use PenMount Serial WinCE driver
with PM6000 RS-232 or PM9000 controller, why
does the touch sometimes fails after system
starts up ?
-
Please adjust the controller switch into
non-PNP device, since all Penmount
RS-232 controller device all be Non-PNP
in Windows CE. Normally the RTS signal
of RS-232 is not used, however sometimes
the operating system send RTS signal to
PenMount controller, resulting in the
controller does not work after Windows
CE starts up !
-
How should I check if the PenMount Device
Driver will be built into system in the
Windows CE 6.0 Platform Builder ?
-

-
I install PenMount RS-232 on COM port, and
follow the ReadMe.txt of PenMount WinCE
driver to install the driver, but it still
doesn’t work, how can I do ?
-
Under WinCE, the pre- setting will
recognize the hardware COM1 as debug
port, the correspondences between
systems and hardware COM ports are as
below:
Hardware Systems
PenMount driver REG setting
COM1 -----> debug port ----->
COM2 -----> COM1
-----> "Port"=dword:1
COM3 -----> COM2
-----> "Port"=dword:2
COM4 -----> COM3
-----> "Port"=dword:3
:
:
:
Please set your COM port as the
description above; if you want to
relieve the debug mode of COM1, please
refer to the steps below:
A. change the platform.reg and search
the sections below:
IF BSP_NOSERIAL !
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial]
"SysIntr"=dword:13 ; "SysIntr"=dword:13
is the setting of IRQ,13 represents IRQ
3
"IoBase"=dword:02F8 ; "IoBase"=dword:02F8
is the setting of IO Port = 2F8
change them into:
IF BSP_NOSERIAL !
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial]
"SysIntr"=dword:14 ; is the
setting of IRQ,14 represents IRQ 4
"IoBase"=dword:03F8 ; is the
setting of IO Port = 3F8
After finishing the settings above,
please re- build the whole Platform, the
COM1 will be the COM1 that system
recognizes.
B. If PenMount RS-232 device still can’t
work after your settings as above,
please test it by the following steps:
1. Remove the PenMount RS-232 device,
install the RS- 232 mouse to the same
COM port, and test if the COM port works
normally in WinCE.
2. If your system is x86 platform,
please test it by XP to see if the
hardware works normally.
If the descriptions can’t resolve your
problems, please contact with us by
e-mail with the information of [Company

After I use PenMount WinCE USB Driver,
touch works normally, but USB mouse and
keyboard works abnormally, sometimes it
can’t boot, sometimes USB mouse and keyboard
works normally after booting, but they can’t
act after plugging and pulling, what is this
problem ?
-
For clarifying the cause of this
problem, after removing the PenMount
WinCE USB driver from WinCE platform
builder, please set a WinCE system
without PenMount driver, and compare
this system with the system includes
PenMount driver, thus you may find out
if this problem is related with PenMount
WinCE USB driver. PenMount team has
handled similar problem like this, and
we found that the cause is the
incompatibility between USB chip and
WinCE. Just for your reference.
-

Does PenMount provide the kernel driver in
Linux system?
-
After installing PenMount USB driver in
Linux, touch works normally, so does
calibration, but after pulling it out and
plug it in the same or another USB port, the
cursor is not accurate while touching, it
can’t be calibrated normally either, how can
I resolve this problem?
-
To pull out and plug in PenMount USB
device, or to change the USB port,
meanwhile the touch works, it’s not
because of PenMount driver device, but
because of the Linux inbox HID driver
which drives PenMount USB device,
therefore the touch is not accurate,
PenMount calibration can’t be used
either. Linux supports completely hot
plug only after the version X window
1.5. It supports this hot plug function
if you work with the version after
PenMount Linux driver V3.6.1.

Why does the old settings in /etc/xorg.conf
disappears after I install the PenMount
Device Driver ? How do I get those settings
back ?
-
The PenMount Linux device driver
V2.3.0.15 and V2.4.1 will first backup
/etc/X11/xorg.conf during installation,
and then overwrites it with the one that
includes PenMount specific settings, to
ensure that the touch screen can be
operate correctly. If you have other
settings in the original /etc/X11/xorg.conf,
you will need to copy them manually back
to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf. The back up
of xorg.conf can also be found in
/etc/X11/ with its original name
concatenate with current date and time.
