PenMount Brings New Features to Standard PCI Firmware

11/16/2017 | Bulletin No. : PMY17011

PenMount is focused on the research and development of projected capacitive (PCI or PCAP) touch products and strives to provide customers with superior product functionality. From the beginning of our PCI product line, standard PenMount PCI controllers paired with standard firmware and touch panels allow customers to quickly and efficiently integrate our products into their projects without the need for tedious parameter adjustments while providing high stability and reliability to system products.

In the following months, PenMount will update the standard firmware of our PCI COF tails PM2203B/PM2300 to V3.3 and control boards PM1710/PM1711/PM1715/PM1410/PM1415/PM1310 to V5.2. Three major functions will be added to this new standard firmware:

  1. Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC)
  2. Enhanced Driving
  3. System Reference (SR)

Since PenMount PCI touch solutions are utilized in a myriad of environments and applications, a profusion of parameter configurations exist including cover lens thickness, size of PCI touch panel, sensitivity, orientation, etc.  In order to better manage firmware parameter presets and facilitate customer verification operations, we will introduce Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) codes to our PCI touch products. PCIUtility will display a CRC code generated from firmware parameters. AMT will use this CRC code to verify parameter settings before shipment and these codes will appear on the Control Board or COF tail product label. From the generated CRC code, customers will also be able to quickly and easily ensure the correct parameter settings for the PCI products they receive.

In terms of extremely noisy environments, PenMount has developed unique Enhanced Driving technology. If standard firmware is unable to surmount environmental noise, customers  can enable the “Enhance Driving” feature in PenMount PCIUtility to stabilize touch operation and sensitivity.  By enabling Enhanced Driving customers will also be able to utilize a cover lens that is up to 4mm thick and a touch panel with a cover lens of less than 3.0mm will be able to pass IEC 61000-4-6 : (Conducted Susceptibility, CS) testing at greater than 10 Vrms. We have used this Enhanced Driving feature in a high vibration/low frequency noise generating machine to mitigate its low-frequency square-wave interference with powerful results.

Customers can build a System Reference (SR) in PenMount PCIUtility to improve operation within a wider operating temperature range and when the panel is subjected to rapid temperature fluctuations.  SR also renders touch operation more stable and is particularly suitable for outdoor environments with greater diurnal temperature variation and kitchen applications.

PenMount listens to customer-side suggestions and needs and continues to provide advanced functions that are convenient to use. Simultaneously, we put ourselves in the customers’ shoes to offer greater consideration on behalf of customers, provide comprehensive touch solutions, and assist customers in successfully introducing PCI touch products. This has always been PenMount’s direction. If you have any questions or product inquires, you are welcome to contact us for more information.
