AMT Introduces Resistive Touch Panels with UV Resistance

03/23/2016 | Bulletin No. : AMTNE16006

A large number of outdoor applications utilize resistive touch panels and these panels are inevitably exposed to different types of ultraviolet (UV) light. However, long-term outdoor exposure to direct UV may cause yellowing or cracking to resistive touch panels’ surface hard coat. In order to provide customers with comprehensive total touch solutions for application environments subject to prolonged exposure to UV light, AMT has introduced a UV resistant resistive touch panel for outdoor systems exposed to direct sunlight.

On the electromagnetic spectrum, UV light falls outside the range of visible light and has a wavelength ranging from 100nm to 400 nm. UV light can be further divided into UVA with a wavelength of 315nm to 400nm, UVB with a wavelength of 280nm to 315nm, and UVC with a wavelength of 100nm to 280nm. The ozone layer of Earth’s atmosphere blocks 98% of UV light and 98.7% of UV light that reaches the surface is UVA (relatively low energy).

AMT’s UV resistant resistive touch panel utilizes a UV Blocker film bonded to the touch surface. This UV Blocker possesses an overall thickness of 0.192mm, an anti-UV treatment, and a hardness of 3H. It has passed accelerated UV exposure ASTM G154 performance criteria Cycle 1 for 200 hours. Customers can apply this film as a top layer laminate to FG, GFG, Touch Window, or Framed Touch resistive touch panels. Whether this layer is applied permanently with OCA or bonded in a way to allow replacement is determined by the UV intensity of customers’ application environments.

AMT’s UV Blocker Film can extend the lifespan of touch panels placed in outdoor settings. The hazing and yellowing caused by direct sunlight exposure affects appearance and visibility while bubbling and cracking will adversely impact operation. If you have a project that requires resistance to prolonged exposure to sunlight, such as outdoor kiosks, vehicle or marine systems, port facilities, etc. applications, this film is right for you.
