In addition to a long-term focus on our mainstay industrial and medical markets, PenMount continues to explore opportunities made possible by PenMount reliability and innovation.  In response to demand from the household appliance sector, PenMount has adapted our projected capacitive (PCAP or PCI) touch control boards and software to pass the IEC 60335-1 standard for “safety of electrical appliances for household and similar purposes.”

There are a wide variety of small household appliances in the kitchen such as electric ovens, electric ranges, microwaves, etc. that employ touch panels.  Spanning a broad range of utility and intertwined inexorably with our daily lives, these products must conform to a number of safety standards.  The IEC 60335-1 standard include requirements for “fire protection in unattended electrical household appliances” and is intended to prevent fires caused by hardware or software malfunction or bug.

The PenMount has designed a custom PCAP control board design with additional  circuitry and ODM firmware version that pass SGS lab evaluation IEC 60335-1 Annex R for Class B software (including IEC 60730-1 Annex H automatic electrical controls for use in, on, or in association with equipment for household and similar use):
