PenMount supplies the most reliable, flexible, and powerful projected capacitive (PCAP or PCI) touch hardware and software on the market today.  The PenMount team is devoted to ensuring your product possesses superior touch functionality and continues to operate at the forefront of current technology.  In July, PenMount released standard Firmware version 6.0 for PCAP controllers and PenMount PCIUtility version 1.5.

PenMount PCAP Firmware V6.0 strengthens the functionality of V5.0 and supports Virtual Key settings for PCAP touch panels.  The following summarizes Firmware V6.0’s enhancements:

• System Reference (SR): Refinement of the SR function is the key improvement in Firmware V6.0. The temperature range for optimal performance has been broadened, especially during rapid temperature change. This feature is the basis that allows our PCAP touch technology to fulfill an even greater number of application requirements.
• Thick Cover Lens Support: Gloved touch operation support for 4.0mm cover glass has been added. Previous firmware versions supported gloved operation on 1.1mm to 3mm glass thicknesses.
• Sensitivity: Sensitivity adjustment range has been increased from -2~+2, in our PenMount sensitivity scale, to -4~+4 in PenMount PCIUtility version 1.5. If customers wish to wear thick gloves during panel operation, sensitivity can be adjusted to the new maximum value or reduced to the new minimum value if panel is in an extremely noisy environment.
• Virtual Key: As a standard feature of Firmware 6.0, virtual keys can be designed around the PCAP touch panel active area. These keys can be identified by the user during software design and freely defined. The PenMount virtual key user’s guide and application software will be available for release to customers in the beginning of August. In order to use virtual keys, the new PenMount PCIUtility V1.5 is also available to support Virtual Key firmware versions.

PenMount software and firmware are backwards compatible.  Certain older firmware versions can be used with PenMount PCIUtility V1.5.
