Welcome to this edition of PenMount news. PenMount projected capacitive (PCAP) touch controllers have a wealth of features built-in to enable PCAP touch technology usage in a majority of environments and under various combinations of operating criteria.   This comprehensive functionality is essential in overcoming the challenges customers may face when bringing a project to market and mitigate any unforeseen issues that may arise in the final product.

Both our engineers and customers have encountered surprises during product development and these situations could have potential been very costly.  The breadth and depth of PenMount’s experience and technology give users the tools necessary to deal with the unexpected.

While visiting a potential customer producing medical devices, our sales representatives and engineers were surprised by being challenged right in the customer’s company lobby.  The problematic product, a dental chair, generated extreme high-frequency noise interference from an integrated motor.

The customers were fed up with wasting time meeting with PCAP vendors whose products just could not work under these noise conditions, so they decided to test PenMount PCAP performance before starting a sit down meeting while those that failed were asked to leave.  Customer engineers used dental equipment which emitted extreme high-frequency noise to test PenMount PCAP solutions.  After passing initial tests, more engineers come and performed tests with additional devices in different frequency ranges in the meeting room to further stress PenMount PCAP controllers and firmware.  They were surprised at how well PenMount products performed compared to other suppliers in this initial meeting.

Excellent noise handling capabilities is a standard feature of PenMount PCAP touch controllers.  All standard PenMount controllers and control boards meet IEC 60601-1-2 requirements. PenMount was the stalwart backup our engineers relied on to successfully win the customers’ trust and ultimately help create a superior product.
