The Expanded Technologies Of PenMount Touch Controllers

Happy Chinese New Year

As the Chinese New Year approaches, the PenMount team wishes everyone a Happy New Year! PenMount has established a professional touch research and development team for 28 years. We have accumulated rich market experience and developed projected capacitive (PCAP) and resistive touch controller hardware, driver, firmware, and utilities using our unique algorithms. We can handle custom functions needed by customers. At the beginning of the new year, we introduce PenMount’s latest technical developments for touch controllers.

PCAP Finger Recognition

One of the biggest challenges for PCAP touch products is maintaining stable measurement signals. External noise, temperature changes, or water can all affect touch measurement and increase the probability of false touch. However, traditional methods of using an MCU to eliminate abnormal signals can have the side effects of slower performance. To solve this problem, we developed finger recognition technology. Using specialized AI algorithms, the optimal parameter values for our customers’ application environment can be derived, enabling the MCU to recognize finger signals more efficiently, without affecting overall performance.

The finger recognition technology can be applied to cleaning the touch panel with a large amount of water or resolve unstable issues caused by excessive temperature differences on touch panels with thick cover glass. For most thermal shock tests, finger recognition can effectively prevent touch from misoperation.

PCAP Button Sensing Technology

New equipment such as coffee machines, water dispensers, aquatic product factories, shower control panels, etc., use touch button designs for their menu operation interface. For this type of product, we have developed PCAP touch button sensing technology. If PCAP buttons do not need to be paired with an LCD, the touch buttons can be made using PCB circuitry; if PCAP buttons need to be paired with an LCD, a transparent ITO film can be used to make touch buttons.

When the PenMount touch controller senses a change in the PCAP button signal, it sends the corresponding event through the connection interface with the system hardware (such as USB or I2C), or it can also send the signal mode required by the customer’s expected hardware through GPIO. We use self-capacitance measurement technology in PCAP touch buttons, and when there is a large amount of flowing water on the PCAP touch button, it can still be accurately operated without any false touch.

Resistive Multi-Touch Technology

Some mission critical products or heavy industrial equipment require a high stability touch device with zero tolerance for errors and hope to have multi-touch function. For this, we have developed the PenMount PM6601 resistive multi-touch (RMT) control board. The PenMount PM6601 control board uses the PenMount P2-10 controller and a new resistive touch algorithm, paired with a specially designed resistive multi-touch panel, which supports two-finger touch and gestures.

The PenMount PM6601 control board supports RMT touch panel sizes from 7″ to 13.3″, and can be used with USB, UART, RS-232, and I2C interfaces. If the customer needs multi-touch, but the use environment cannot use PCAP touch products at all, consider using PenMount resistive multi-touch products.

PenMount’s design philosophy is to think more for customers, understand their needs, and provide a complete touch solution to help customers adapt PCAP touch products. Ensuring that projects proceed smoothly is our highest goal. PenMount also has a complete set of tools to meet your common usage and setting needs, making it easier for you to develop and design products.
