How do I use multi-touch if I am using a Linux or Android operating system?

Use PenMount provided driver source code to drive your PenMount hardware device on an Android operating system and pair with an Android multi-touch application to engage in multi-touch operation.

In terms of Linux, Linux Kernel 3.0.0 or later version has built-in support for the PenMount USB interface driver.  For the PenMount RS232 interface, Linux Kernel 3.2.0 or later has built-in driver support.  If the Linux operating system you are using is not one of the aforementioned core versions, you can use PenMount provided driver source code to drive your PenMount hardware device and pair with Linux provided multi-touch applications to engage in multi-touch operation.

How do I update PenMount PCAP controller firmware?

PenMount provides the PCIMSet utility update firmware to allow customers to update firmware onsite. If you require related software, please contact our sales personnel or local distributor.

Is there a limit on how many times firmware can be flashed onto PenMount PCAP controllers?

During the flash process, if power is suddenly interrupted, the IC may be damaged.  Otherwise, under normal operating conditions, the IC can be flashed approximately 1000~3000 times.

Can the parameter settings of PenMount PCAP controllers be adjusted?

PenMount can provide the PCIMset utility to allow customers to adjust relevant parameters.  For detailed settings, please reference the PCIMset utility manual.

PenMount PCAP controllers do not require calibration.  Only a rotation direction alignment according to screen rotation angle is required in any operating system.

I have connect normally according to the instruction manual and have a touch signal but the cursor on the surface of the touch panel is skipping abnormally and unstable. What should I do?

Please be sure to execute the PCIMset tool program when there is an abnormality, please follow the steps in the PenMount Projected Capacitive Product Abnormality Confirmation Procedure (link) instruction file, and the Log file (.csv) file will be automatically generated. Please go to the homepage of the PenMount website service from to fill in the relevant data, and attach the (.csv) file to PenMount, and the service staff will provide necessary assistance.

Which microprocessor supplier is PenMount partnered with? Can I buy directly from this microprocessor supplier?

PenMount controller chips are self-developed and include built-in PenMount firmware.   If you need to purchase product, please contact a PenMount distributor.

Can PenMount controllers support PCAP touch panels optically bonded to LCD panels?

Yes, a back-lit LED screen is recommended.
However, if noise from the light source is too great and special assistance is required, please contact PenMount.

We recommend using the PCIMset utility to conduct function tests to determine whether PCAP controller and touch panel functions are normal.

How are PenMount’s “WP” and “WD” water handling modes defined?

WP (Water Performance):

When there is water on the touch panel surface, no false touch signals are generated in wet areas and single touch operation is available in dry areas.  Once the touch panel is dried, normal touch operation is automatically restored.

WD (Water Detection):

When there is water on the touch panel surface, the controller automatically suspends touch functions.  Once the touch panel is dried, normal touch operation is automatically restored.

Standard firmware does not support connecting two or more interfaces simultaneously.  If you need to do this, contact AMT sales personnel and we will create a customer firmware version to support this request.

The firmware update process is interrupted, causing the device to fail to operate, can the firmware be updated again?

Yes, if the firmware update process is interrupted, the device will enter Boot Loader mode when power on, and you may update the firmware again.

Can the projected capacitor product not install the driver, and the firmware directly report the system as a mouse device?

Yes, the standard version of the firmware and the PCIMset tool can set the controller as a mouse device, but please note that if there is a need for system rotation, the operation cursor will not be able to correspond correctly without the assistance of the driver.

Currently, PenMount has worked with PCAP products utilizing 2 or 3 layer ITO Film, Mesh, and additional top glass application we refer to as GFF or GFFF structure.

What thickness of cover glass can the PenMount PCAP controller support?

PenMount projected capacitive touch panel basically supports 1.1, 1.8, 2.8, and 4mm standard thickness of upper glass. If you need to use the upper glass with a thickness of more than 2.8mm, please contact us. As the enhanced sensing capability is more susceptible to noise interference, you will need to activate the anti-noise parameters with full functions. The best operating effect is within 2 fingers.

Do PenMount PCAP touch panels offer a COF product?

Yes,  currently, we offer 3.5”~ 10.1” PCAP touch panels with a COF tail design.  If you have a need for other sizes, please contact us.

What are the advantages of PenMount PCAP COF touch panels?

By integrating the controller IC with the touch panel, space requirements in mechanism design are lowered.

The FPC can be designed as long, thin, and curved shapes to facilitate installation in small products.

Why do large PCAP touch panels use more than one or two tails?

The larger the PCAP touch panel the more trace elements.  In order to increase quality, we use a Connector pin with a maximum 80 pins.

Can I use a PCAP touch panel if there is water on the touch surface?

When the PCAP touch panel surface is wet, sensing failure or false touch points may occur.  We suggest you dry a wet PCAP touch surface before use.

Can PenMount PCAP touch panel support gloves?

Standards support general cleaning gloves and surgical gloves, etc.
If you are not sensitive to the use of gloves, you can use the PCIMSet tool program to adjust the sensitivity to improve;
Because of the wide variety of commercially available gloves and thicknesses, special gloves require special toughness to support (ODM firmware).

Is Calibration Required After Installing An AMT PCAP Product On A System?

Calibration can be divided into accuracy calibration and System Reference calibration. AMT PCAP products do not require accuracy calibration. However, System Reference (SR) Calibration is recommended after installation to enhance product reliability.

Do AMT PCAP Products Have A Self-Calibrating Utility?

In general, AMT PCAP products do not require self-calibration in most situations. Onboard frequency hopping can automatically adapt to the customer’s environment. If the customer’s is especially noisy, System Reference and Enhanced Driving can be activated to reduce the effect of noise. When apply a non-standard AA, AMT PCAP products include a Coordinate Calibration utility to adjust the AA to dimensions suitable for customer requirements.

How Are Testing And Verification Performed After An AMT PCAP Touch Product Is Installed Onto A System?

AMT PCAP products can be paired with a PenMount Diagnostic Tool (Open Short Test > Noise Level) to perform product function testing and verification after assembly.

Why is it hard to touch the screen edges on displays with front bezel design?

When user tries to touch the screen edge, the higher front bezel will block its way. When the finger center cannot physically cover the edge, the cursor will not move to the edge of screen.

How to make cursor move to edge on displays with front bezel?

(1) please use the pcimset utility and adjust the screen compensation parameters.

(2) Install and use the PenMount device driver with more enhanced edge compensation features.

Can the projected capacitor be used with a stylus?

Yes, please use a passive stylus. It is recommended that the contact area with the touch panel be up to 8 mm during operation, and the pen body needs to be a conductor.

Are there any specifications for the number of touches for projected capacitive products?

Resistive touch screens have touch specifications. This is because the operating principle is a mechanical structure, so there are touch specifications, while projected capacitive touch panels operate on a sensing structure and there is no loss of mechanical structure, so AMT projection touch panels do not provide touch number specifications.

PenMount 6011 series controller: Provide RS-232 or USB interface, support automatic detection of 4, 5, 8-wire resistive touch panel. The name of the control board is: PM6203.

How many touch points does the PenMount 6000 / 9000 series support?

PenMount 6000 / 9000 series resistive touch controllers only support single-point touch.

What is the difference between the PenMount 6000 and 9000 series controllers?

The PenMount 6000  is the newest resisitive controller with enhanced operational smoothness, supports USB and RS-232 interfaces, and possesses a sample rate of 160 bps.
The PenMount 9000 controller is a product PenMount developed initially, supports the RS-232 interface, and is used by many customers in the market.

What are the features of the PenMount M1 series resistive controllers?

The PenMount M1 series can support input operation in as many as 12 zones.  This design must be paired with an AMT (Multi-Finger, MF)  touch panel.  Each zone divided from the touch panel’s active area can be operated individually.  However, multi-finger operation is not possible within a particular zone.

The PenMount control board supports the USB and RS-232 interfaces. Can I connect both interfaced on the same control board to a computer to use simultaneously?

The interfaces cannot be used simultaneously because when both interfaces are connected to a computer, the control board firmware will setup the USB interface.

After installing firmware, why is cursor direction error or inaccuracy occurring?

After completing firmware installation for the first time, you must first calibrate the touch panel.  Calibration solves cursor direction error and inaccuracy issues.

What are the characteristics of the PenMount 6005 Resistive Controller?

The PenMount 6005 series supports 4, 5, and 8-wire resistive touch panels. The firmware processes the 5-point positioning algorithm, which can be used with the system HID driver to achieve accurate touch control.

What is the application of PenMount 6601 multi-point resistive controller?

PenMount 6601 series can support 68-channel touch panel design, it needs to be used with AMT multi-touch panel, supports about <12.1” touch panel, the distance between two fingers is greater than 20 mm, and the two fingers can be recognized smoothly.
